Primary Job Responsibilities
The Developers Program provides third party developers a direct integration to the
eBay marketplace through our Web services API. Our mission is to enable a wide
variety of innovative and practical solutions on the eBay platform that meet
the highly diverse needs of eBay's buyers, sellers, and affiliates.
The
entire platform processes over 2 billion API calls a month, and our developers
deploy applications not only on the web, but also on desktop, wireless, and
alternative platforms.
The Senior Product Marketing Manager leads product
strategy and definition, and is the group's representative in the product
process. The ideal candidate has an analytical business background coupled with
software development experience and an understanding of Web 2.0.
Responsibilities include:
• Developing the eBay Marketplace platform product
strategy and roadmap by analyzing the external marketplace, customers, and
competitors to determine the right features for eBay third-party developers.
• Defining and driving platform features by writing business
requirement documents (BRDs), calculating NPVs, and working with the product
development team, Developers Program, business units and other cross functional
groups to bring features live to the site.
• Vetting BRDs from other groups for platform fit and
appropriateness, and proactively reaching out to other teams to ensure they
consider the eBay platform when designing products.
• Calculating
post-launch analysis, including NPVlookbacks, for Developers Program BRDs, and
working with Product Management and Product Development to get developer
feedback on all Web services and platform products.
- Proven capability of product planning
- Strong understanding of technology and
software development
- Familiarity with software APIs; Web services,
XML, and SOAP a strong plus
- Success launching complex Internet products
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong preference given to candidates who are also active
- eBay users and are familiar with the eBay user experience
- Software development experience a plus
