You probably saw Bob Geldof use the media to unfairly pick on eBay.   While I certainly appreciate the great events Bob Geldof has organized for the good of the world, he crossed the line.

To recap, as part of Live 8 (an event to help relieve third world debt), Geldof's organization gave away free tickets.  These tickets wound up on eBay.  Geldof then went on to trash eBay by calling us greedy and a pimp since we allowed sellers to sell (imgaine that)!.

eBay is an open marketplace where sellers and buyers can trade freely.  While eBay certainly does get involved and pull down illegal or very distasteful items (like after 9/11), this certainly doesn't qualify.

What really bothers me is Geldof could have worked with eBay to auction off tickets for charity (i.e. eBay won't get paid and therefore can't be viewed as greedy or a pimp).  Can you imagine how much money he could have raised for his cause?

Honestly, what did Geldof think was going to happen when you give away thousands of free tickets to people he doesn't know!  If Geldof is true to his word, I'd like to see him parade around London to every store and market and demand sellers stop selling Live 8 tickets.  If not, he's the pimp!
