A couple weeks ago, John Donahoe, eBay's President mentioned he had read Thomas Friedman's new book: The World is Flat. Adam also wrote a review of the book.
I've always liked Friedman's writing as he describes complex issues in a clear fashion. I also like Friedman because we both went to Brandeis and no one really famous went to Brandeis (except for Mitch Albom-I guess Brandeis produces good writers).
I purchased the book on eBay which really isn't all that interesting. However, the book showed up in Amazon packaging. I opened the package to see the usual mail stuffers of things Amazon is pimping on behalf of their advertisers.
What happened here was the seller purchased the book on Amazon AFTER I purchased it on eBay. He was playing the arbitrage game and capitalizing on my refusal to buy anything on Amazon although they have a great service.
This got me to thinking that sellers on eBay should market the fact the book will be fulfilled by Amazon. That way buyers get the benefit of buying on eBay (i.e. feedback, telling your friends at parties how you buy on eBay and save money) plus they get the benefit of Amazon's speedy delivery.
